Spanish at the University of Mississippi
The University of Mississippi offers an undergraduate major and minor in Spanish as well as an M.A. in Modern Language with a specialization in Spanish. Students who are considering continuing their education to the doctoral level are invited to view the Ph.D. in Second Languages Studies, specializing in Applied Linguistics and Spanish.
The Spanish section of the Department of Modern Languages has faculty with specializations in significant areas of Spanish language, literature, and culture. Instructors hold at least a Master’s degree and have native or near-native proficiency in Spanish. Abundant opportunities exist for students to work closely with Spanish faculty.
Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, is the only honor society devoted exclusively to students of Spanish in four-year colleges and universities and is the largest foreign language honor society in existence with over 150,000 members. In the Department of Modern Languages, the Delta Iota chapter of Sigma Delta Pi recognizes outstanding achievement in Spanish among students at the University of Mississippi.
