Edgar is originally from Mexico City, Mexico; Edgar Serrano has lived in the United States for more than 20 years. Edgar has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a minor in International Marketing and a Master of Arts in Modern Languages from The University of Mississippi. Currently, he teaches Spanish full-time at The University of Mississippi and part-time at Oxford University School. He is an advocator for early language teaching.
Edgar’s passion for teaching started while working for a furniture manufacturer as Director of International Sales. During his business career he had the opportunity to interact, train, and teach sales personnel in different countries around the world. This experience gave him ample cultural awareness and saw first-hand the great advantage of speaking another language.
Currently, Edgar just finished serving as President for the Mississippi Foreign Language Association (MFLA) and is the Mississippi Representative of the National Network for Early Language Learning (NNELL). His presentation, A Picture is Worth Thousand Words, Really! was voted as the best of Mississippi at the 2014 MFLA conference. In 2015, he was recognized as a Teacher of Excellenceby the MFLA. In 2018, he was recognized as National Teachers of the Year by AATSP. Also, is currently advocating to help implement the Mississippi Seal of Biliteracy and functions as the Co-Chair. He is an active speaker at different local, regional, and national conferences.
