Catherine (Millette) Lawhorn – Alumna Spotlight

Catherine (Millette) Lawhorn World Language Department Chair, Brentwood Academy

Hometown: Pascagoula, MS
BA in Spanish and English (2009)
MA in Spanish Linguistics and TESL (2011)

I loved the program because I got to dive deep into Spanish history, linguistics, and literature, as well as gain a year of teaching experience.

After graduating in 2011, I moved to Nashville, where I have taught mostly in private middle and high school settings, community college, and an adult language school (Tennessee Language Center). I have taught kindergarteners through adults, but am finding my niche with intermediate/advanced high school students.

Next year I will be the World Language Department Chair at my school, Brentwood Academy, and will teach Spanish IV, IV Honors, and V Honors. I have my Tennessee 7-12 Spanish teaching license and earned a second Master’s in Instructional Practice at Lipscomb University.

I think the Ole Miss Modern Languages Department did an excellent job in giving me a deep understanding of the Spanish language.
